Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, PoliticLab collects the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available on Automattic’s website. After approval of your comment, your profile picture may be visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If users upload images to the website, they are advised to avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images available on the site.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on the site, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when leaving another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit the login page (if enabled), a temporary cookie will be set to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When logging in (if user accounts are enabled), several cookies will be set to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” will extend login persistence to two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (for example videos, images, articles, or links). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
PoliticLab does not sell, trade, or rent users’ personal data.
If password reset functionality is enabled, the visitor’s IP address may be included in the password reset email.
Comments submitted by visitors may be checked through automated spam detection services.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows PoliticLab to recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If user accounts are enabled on the site, the personal information provided in user profiles is stored. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for changing their username). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you may request to receive an exported file of the personal data held about you, including any data you have provided. You may also request that any personal data held be erased.
This does not include any data that PoliticLab is required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.
